A true Sikh is expected to wake up early in the morning (Amrit vele) and take his bath first. Then he should remember God. It is to be followed by the recitation of Guru Granth Sahib (the holy scriptures of the Sikhs). After performing all these tasks, daily in the morning, the Sikh should engage in his routine work. He is also expected to earn his daily bread with honesty and labour , he should again remember God and recite the scriptures in the evening . Sikhism also dictates its followers to deduct ten percent of their earning and use it for charity . A Sikh is allowed to recite His name, while engaged in his routine work. Still, he must visit the Guruduara whenever he is free. Guruvani also says:
SUNATE PUNIT, KAHATE PAVIT that is the listener becomes pious and is benefitted more than the narrator.
AMRIT VELE VANI (SCRIPTURES TO BE READ IN THE MORNING)
In the morning, the Sikhs must recite five Vanis (scriptures): Japuji Sahib, Jap Sahib, Toaprasad Saveyai, Chanpan and Anand Sahib followed by Ardas (offering) at the end. In the evening, Sikhs must recite Rahras Sahib and sing Kirtan Sohila (Devotional songs).
