THE MAHAVANI (SERMONS) OF HUMANITARIANISM

Nearly two and a half centuries back, Buddha gave his sermons which can be called as 'Mahavani' of humanism. Today, when entire human civilization is reeling under severe crises, it is imperative that we study these sermons with devotion.

In Prakrit there is sloka -

MATA YATHA NRIYAM PUTTAM AYUSA EKPUTTA MANURAKKHE|
AEVAN PI SABBA BHUTESHU MANASAM BHAVAYE APARIMANAM||

Just as the mother sacrifices herself and takes care of her one and only child, in the same way, one should look upon all living beings with limitless friendship and affection i.e. with the emotion of Mahamaitra.

One should constantly recall all these sermons while walking, sleeping etc. This itself has been referred to as Brahmavichar in Ehaloka (natural world)

Prakrit

SABBE SATTA ABESH HONTU AVYAPAJKA HONTU
ANIGHA HONTU, SUKHI ATTANAM PARIHARANTU
DUKHA MUCHCHANTU, YATHA LABDHA SAMPATITO MA VIGACHANTU||

Meaning- May all creatures be devoid of enemies, free from misery, crises and disease. May they eternally dwell in happiness, free from pain and poverty.

May the sermons of Tathagata (which is like the elixir of life) of love and peace be sprinkled on those who are violent, devoid of love, and lost in dilemma and may it spread the message of Mahashanti (divine peace), Mahakshema (divine welfare), Mahapunya (divine virtues), and Mahaprema (divine love).

All the Bodhisattvas recite this one and only prayer in the interest of all.

AUM NAMAHA SARVABUDDHA BODHISATVEBHYAHA ||
